Have fun with these activities!!!
Writing Idea #1 Cheese Man Recipe: The Stinky Cheese Man ran and ran but no one would ever follow him. It could be because of his smell or it could be because they really didn’t like cheese. Your job is to design your own character that you would chase. Create a short story of a little old woman and little old man making your food man. This person should be unique to you. Create the body out of your favorite food. Add other types of food for his mouth, eyes, ears, or anything else you want to put on him. Remember this is a unique character for you to want to chase after so pick your top foods.
Writing Idea #2 New Spin: This entire book is full of great short stories on taking a classic fairy tale and give it a new spin. I want you to now choose any class fairy tale and put a new spin on it. Try to use something that isn’t already in the book. Make sure to make it as unique and fun as possible. For example what would happen if Cinderella had an iron boot instead of a glass slipper.
Writing Idea #3 Where did the Fox go?: That sly fox likes to appear in almost every story. Continue on with the story of the Stinky Cheese Man as if the fox never even appeared. Where would he go next? Would he try and cross the water on his own? You decide how this story is going to end without the help of the sly fox.

Writing Word Choice: Compare and Contrast: For this activity look at the compare and contrast chart to the left. Think about what makes these fairy tales similar and what makes them different. Use the chart to now write four sentences that compare the original fairy tale to these fairy tales. After you are finished with that now write four sentences on how they are different.
Writing Voices: Jack and the Giant: Jack and the Giant appear in different areas throughout the story. The both have characteristics that make them unique by what they say or how they present themselves. You can get a feel about what their voice would be based off of how things are worded in the story. Using the worksheet below fill in the remaining areas for what makes Jack and the Giant they way they are. Click the button below to view and print the worksheet.
